In my previous position as a Software Engineer at XYZ Tech, I faced a domain-specific challenge when we needed to enhance our code's scalability due to a significant rise in user numbers. My responsibility was to ensure that the application could accommodate this increased traffic without sacrificing performance. To start, I examined the current system to pinpoint areas that required improvement and optimization. I discovered that our database queries were not efficiently written, leading to unnecessary strain. I restructured these queries, normalized our database, and implemented stored procedures. Despite the performance gains, I recognized that it still wasn't robust enough to support further growth. Therefore, I suggested shifting to a microservices architecture, which would break the application into smaller, more manageable services. I took the initiative to lead this transition and collaborated with various teams to ensure its successful execution. As a result, we not only effectively handled the increased user traffic but also positioned the system for future scalability.
