Problem: In my previous organization, we faced challenges with providing effective product recommendations on our ecommerce platform. Solution: I proposed implementing a machine learning strategy to create a recommendation system capable of recognizing users' behaviors and preferences over time. Process: To address this issue, we utilized Collaborative Filtering, a machine learning method that generates automatic predictions regarding user interests by analyzing the preferences of numerous users. We gathered data on user activities from the platform, including products viewed, clicks, previous purchases, and ratings given by users. This information was then used to train our model. Outcome: As a result, we were able to offer much more tailored product recommendations to our users, which subsequently contributed to an increase in both sales and user satisfaction. Challenges: A major challenge in developing this system was dealing with sparse data, as not every user had rated or viewed every product. To address this, we implemented a hybrid model that combined collaborative filtering with content-based recommendations, which proved effective even with sparse data, leading to a highly efficient and personalized recommendation system.
