During my time as a project manager at an IT company, we faced a project with a very tight deadline. Typically, we followed a linear planning process, moving from point A to B to C. However, this approach proved to be impractical given the time constraints. I suggested and implemented a non-linear strategy, breaking the project into separate components to work on simultaneously rather than sequentially. We determined which tasks could be performed in parallel and assigned them accordingly. This shift in thinking deviated from our standard procedures and was initially met with some uncertainty, but it ultimately reduced project duration significantly without compromising quality. At first, some team members resisted this new approach, but as they witnessed its advantages and success, their confidence grew. This experience highlighted for me the value of being adaptable and open to innovative methods in project management.
