About the role
What will you do at Amazon?
Amazon's Tax Services organization is building the next generation of solutions
to shape the way that we calculate, collect, and invoice tax information as one
of the world's largest collectors of online indirect taxes and fees. Our
organization's mission is to ensure that Amazon has the right technology and
processes to remain accurate and adaptable in a rapidly changing business and
tax environment.
That's where you come in. We're looking for a Senior Product Manager - Technical
(Sr PM-T) to join us and help build the future of the Tax Services Calculation
product charter, which is responsible for indirect tax calculation,
determination, and the tax records that support reporting and invoicing for
Amazon and non-Amazon entities, across billions of tax calculations and
documents every year. As a Sr PM-T, you will be responsible for identifying and
executing on opportunities to build high-impact solutions and features for our
Calculation product that meet customer needs and drive business growth.
We are looking for a dynamic, entrepreneurial product manager who is passionate
about solving complex and ambiguous problems and who thrives in a fast-paced
environment. This position has a high level of visibility, so you will need to
communicate clearly and compellingly at all levels of the company. You will
measure business impact by diving deep into metrics, tying inputs to business
outcomes, and working backwards from customers. You should have a positive
attitude and a strong work ethic; you will
work fast and smart, and adapt and iterate quickly. This role operates in highly
ambiguous areas, and ideal candidates have a proven track record of bringing
clarity, simplifying, and prototyping to iterate fast
Key job responsibilities
- Influence the development and execution of high-quality feature roadmaps based
on the overall product strategy and vision.
- Understand and explain the impact of product features on the strategic value,
accuracy, and performance of the Tax Calculation product.
- Make prioritization and trade-off decisions among customer experience, scope,
and time to market.
- Manage product planning and development through day-to-day collaboration and
decision making with a cross-functional team including engineers, designers, and
business and partner teams.
- Develop detailed, crisp user stories with acceptance criteria based on
customer needs and business requirements that can be used to create product
specifications and architecture.
- Define and analyze metrics that measure and benchmark product success.
A day in the life
As a Sr PM-T in Tax Services, your day will be a mix of meetings and heads-down
time for strategy and roadmap planning, and tactical execution. You'll meet with
customers and peers across product, engineering, UX, tax, and legal to
understand their needs and identify feature opportunities for our Tax
Calculation product. You'll develop functional product and user experience
requirements for new features and processes that help meet our customers' needs.
You will be expected to own the end-to-end roadmap for discrete product features
from requirements gathering through implementation, working across teams to
break down silos and drive feature delivery. You will partner closely with the
Tax Services engineering team to drive technology design outcomes that
are scalable to support all of Amazon's business and compliance needs. The work
you deliver has a direct impact on the future product portfolio for the Tax
Services organization.
About the team
The Tax Calculation team owns the core engine at the heart of Amazon's Tax
Services: the platform that determines and calculates the correct indirect tax
and regulatory fees for every transaction Amazon processes, across 20+
marketplaces and billions of
calculations each year. When a customer checks out, a seller remits, or a vendor
is invoiced, our product is what ensures the tax is accurate, compliant, and
processable, in milliseconds and at global scale.
We work at the intersection of technology, tax law, and customer experience.
That means partnering closely with engineering to build a scalable, resilient
platform; with Tax Planning and Legal to translate complex and constantly
changing legislation into
system behavior; and with business teams across Amazon to unblock new products,
marketplaces, and business models. Our charter spans everything from calculation
accuracy and jurisdiction determination to platform simplification, new charge
models, and
enabling emerging businesses to launch compliantly anywhere in the world.
We are a team that values ownership, bias for action, and simplifying hard
problems. The tax landscape is accelerating, our systems are evolving to meet
it, and there is significant room to shape both the product and the
architecture. If you want high-
visibility work with direct impact on how one of the world's largest collectors
of indirect taxes operates, this is the team. Basic
