In my previous role, I was in charge of a project that was part of the company's strategic initiatives. One of our stakeholders, an executive, had a personal connection with a vendor who was bidding for the project. Although the vendor provided reliable services, I noticed that the decision-making might not have been completely unbiased due to the executive's relationship. I brought this potential conflict of interest to the attention of my direct manager. He concurred, and we agreed to address the matter with the executive in a sensitive manner. I created a presentation based on facts, detailing the strengths and weaknesses of all the vendors, including the one connected to the executive. I stressed our objective of selecting the best vendor without jeopardizing any relationships. After considering our perspective, the executive valued our honesty and endorsed our equitable selection process. Ultimately, we opted for a different vendor who offered greater value, leading to the successful delivery of the project.
