I recall purchasing a manual can opener that was extremely challenging to operate. Although it was a simple, low-tech device, it turned a task that should have been straightforward into something quite difficult and time-consuming. I found it hard each time to secure a proper grip on the can's lid and to turn it smoothly without it slipping. Feeling frustrated, I decided to enhance the design. I replaced the handles with more ergonomic ones from an old, broken can opener I had, adjusted the cutting wheel to make it a bit sharper, and added small rubber pieces for improved grip. In the end, the can opener functioned much better, and I gained valuable insights about ergonomics and the interplay of elements in product design.
