In my previous position as a project manager, I oversaw the launch of a new product at a fast-moving consumer goods company. Drawing from my prior experiences, I opted to forgo extensive market research before the launch, believing that our product was distinctive enough to establish its own market niche. Regrettably, this choice proved to be a costly error, as the product underperformed and failed to gain substantial market share. The outcome was disheartening, and we ultimately had to withdraw the product from the market. This experience imparted a crucial lesson about the necessity of thorough market research, regardless of how confident one may feel about a product. Since then, I have dedicated significantly more time to gathering relevant data and insights prior to making strategic decisions. This approach has not only enhanced my decision-making skills but has also considerably mitigated the risk of similar issues arising in the future.
