Addressing misinformation is a challenging endeavor that spans multiple domains. It includes the use of machine learning algorithms, content moderation, and analysis of user behavior, among other factors. Consequently, the metrics for success should also be multifaceted. The most straightforward indicators would relate to the identification and removal of misinformation. This might involve tracking the volume of misinformation detected by our AI and human moderators, the speed at which it is taken down, or the decrease in repeat offenders spreading misinformation. Additionally, feedback from users can act as an essential performance metric. We could carry out regular surveys to determine whether users feel they are encountering less misinformation. Another crucial metric would be the effect on the broader Facebook ecosystem. For instance, are we observing an increase in user engagement or healthier discussions? Are more new users signing up because they view Facebook as a reliable platform? Together, these metrics would provide a holistic perspective on our effectiveness in combating misinformation.
