What you'll do

The ViaSat Access Edge Terminal Software team is responsible for the design, development, delivery and support of software running on embedded satellite terminal products (Ka-band, L-band, 5G) that are used in aviation, maritime, residential and other sectors.

You’ll be a software engineer working as part of a software team with a technical lead. You will be engaging & collaborating with other software teams working on embedded software, to achieve development, design, quality and agility goals.

The day-to-day

Software engineering as part of an agile development team

Design, develop and drive software products

Participate in design, development and code reviews of software with a view to deliver quality products in the short and long term

Collaborate & coordinate with other software engineers and teams in driving timely delivery of quality software

Produce software as an individual contributor.

Travel up to 10%

What you'll need

5 - 7 years’ experience in hands-on software development

Bachelor's in computer science, computer engineering, or software engineering

Experience using C/C++, Linux and embedded systems.

Proven experience with Linux/UNIX

Hands-on experience with Objected Oriented methodology & development

Relevant coursework in computer science

Strong analytical skills & ability to evaluate software design, including existing codebases

Strong sense of ownership

Excellent communication skills

US Citizenship is required

What will help you on the job

Experience writing unit tests for C/C++.

Experience using python in the functional test of embedded systems.

Knowledge of real-time operating systems (RTOS) and principles.

Familiarity with version control systems (e.g., git).

Experience with GitHub Actions.

Learning agility

Experience with using AI tooling in software development

Being detail oriented with strong analytical problem-solving skills

Ability to collaborate and communicate in a team environment

Master's in computer science or computer engineering

Salary range

$140,500.00 - $221,500.00 / annually. For specific work locations within San Jose, the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, the base pay range for this role is $174,000.00- $261,000.00/ annually

Base pay may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
