Senior Systems Engineer I
New York, NY
Duties: Full ownership & responsibility for the intake, planning, execution & delivery of HPC features/epics/project deliverables. Work closely with senior engineers and technical leadership to implement reliable, scalable solutions that support the scientists. Regularly review teammates’ code for correctness, readability, performance & adherence to project standards.
Provide constructive feedback & foster a collaborative review culture that emphasizes learning & quality improvement. Identify opportunities to enhance system reliability, performance and operational efficiency.
Requirements
- Must possess a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or a closely related field plus 5 years of experience (or a Master’s degree + 3 years) as a Systems Administrator, Systems Engineer, Systems Analyst, Server Engineer or closely related occupation involving High Performance Computing.
- Must possess at least 3 years of experience in the following: Taking full responsibility for the planning, execution and delivery of engineering features/epics/project deliverables; Peer code review and peer mentorship; Using Ansible, Terraform or AWS Cloud Formation to define, deploy & maintain infrastructure; Identifying manual infrastructure configurations & proactively converting them to automated IaC solutions; Optimizing IaC for speed, completeness, idempotency & maintainability; Designing & implementing moderately complex systems & architectures; Utilizing Linux/Unix Systems Administration to perform daily system administration tasks; Utilizing Bash & Python to automate repetitive cluster management tasks, write monitoring scripts & develop custom tools; Supporting computational chemistry and molecular modeling software; Translating scientific requirements into HPC infrastructure needs; Using profiling tools & system logs to diagnose hardware, network & software problems affecting large-scale workloads; Involvement in the lifecycle planning of servers; Conducting cost-performance analyses; Building, upgrading & maintaining HPC software stacks; and, creating & maintaining internal HPC documentation, guides, and troubleshooting playbooks.
- May work from home but must be able to report to New York, New York office at least 2 days per week.
- Salary is $152,652 to $163,900 per year.
