About the role

What will you do at Rocketlane?

Customer Engineer — RocketlaneAbout RocketlaneRocketlane is a fast-growing SaaS company redefining how professional services teamsdeliver customer projects. We recently raised $60M in Series C led by Insight Partners, bringing total funding to over $105M from investors including 8VC, Matrix Partners, andNexus Venture Partners.

With Nitro, our agentic execution platform, we've built anAI-powered engine that configures systems, runs migrations, generates documentation, andsurfaces delivery risks, right inside customer project workflows. We're 200+ people building aproduct that services teams love, and we're just getting started. What will you do? As a Customer Engineer, you'll be the hands-on technical engine behind how our customersconnect Rocketlane to the rest of their tech stack.

Working alongside FDEs, implementationteams, and Product Managers, you'll spend your time understanding a customer's tools, platforms, and data, and then building the pipelines and integrations that make everythingtalk to each other. This is a Customer Engineering role where you won't be expected to run enterprise accountssolo on day one.

Instead, you'll join client calls, learn to read a customer's technologyecosystem quickly, and take ownership of well-scoped engineering work: data models, integrations, scripts, and connectors. Over time, as your judgment and customer instinctsgrow, you'll take on bigger pieces of the deployment and start feeding what you learn in thefield back into the product. You don't need prior work experience to be great at this role.

If your final-year project, ahackathon build, or a personal side project involved wiring systems together, wranglingmessy data, or building something people actually used — that's exactly the muscle this roleneeds.

If you love writing code and being close to the customer, and "pure backendengineer" feels too far from the people using what you build, this role is for you. What you'll be responsible forData engineering across the customer's stackBuild and maintain data pipelines and integrations that connect Rocketlane with thetools our customers already use (CRM, HRMS, ERP, finance tools, data warehouses, internal APIs).

Model and shape messy, real-world customer data so it's clean and usable inproduction.Write Python scripts and small utilities to move, transform, and validate data betweensystems.Understanding the customer's technology ecosystemLearn how each customer's platforms, tools, and data fit together, and translate thatinto a clear picture the team can build against.Join technical discovery and working sessions with senior FDEs — listening, askingsharp questions, and gradually taking on more of the conversation.Hands-on engineering with AIWork with LLMs to build customer-specific automations: from simple prompt-drivenscripts to connecting Nitro agents to customer data.Debug integration and data issues, do root-cause analysis, and ship fixes quickly —with support from senior team members while you're ramping up.Contributing back to the productSurface recurring customer patterns, edge cases, and gaps to Product andEngineering.Help build reusable templates, connectors, and internal tooling so each deploymentmakes the next one faster.Must-have skills0–3 years of software development experience, or strong, demonstrableproject experience (final-year projects, internships, hackathons, or open-sourcework) — comfortable writing clean Python.Solid grasp of data structures, data modeling, and databases — coursework orproject-level SQL and an understanding of how data flows between systems isenough.Comfortable reading and working with REST APIs: testing endpoints, understandingauth, and wiring up integrations — even if this was only done in a class project orpersonal build. Some hands-on exposure to LLMs: prompting, calling model APIs, or building smallAI-powered tools — a weekend project counts.Genuine interest in the customer side: the confidence to be on client calls, ask goodquestions, and explain technical things clearly — think: explaining your project to aprofessor outside your specialization, or to judges at a hackathon.A bias toward action — your project history should show you dug into problems onyour own rather than only completing assigned coursework.Good-to-have skillsExperience with ETL / data pipeline tools or integration platforms (Make, Workato,Boomi, or similar) — academic or self-taught exposure counts.Familiarity with AI-assisted dev tools (Cursor, Claude Code, Replit, etc.).

Exposure to cloud (AWS/GCP), Postman, Docker, or webhooks — free-tier orpersonal-project experience is fine.Any internship, coursework, or project experience in a customer-facing or B2B SaaSsetting.A GitHub, portfolio, or demo link for your best project — we'd genuinely like to seewhat you've built. You should apply if youWant to build real things that go live in customer environments in weeks, notquarters.Enjoy the mix of writing code and being in the room with customers. Are early in your career — including brand new to the workforce — but hungry togrow fast into a full Forward Deployed / Customer Engineer. Why join us?

Impact and ownership from day one — small team, real problems, your work inproduction.Learn from the best — you'll be mentored by senior FDEs and see how enterprisedeployments actually work.Front-row seat to the AI era — build with frontier models and deploy real agentsinto real businesses.Best-in-class benefits — comprehensive health coverage, flexible time off, andsupport for you and your family.
