About the role
What will you do at Level Data?
As a DevOps engineer at Level Data, you will be responsible for developing and maintaining infrastructure to support service delivery across multiple stacks. You will work closely with several teams, including Software Engineering and Security, to provide a stable and secure hosting stack for some of the best-loved software services in the K-12 Education market.
Your day-to-day duties will include working with several cloud environments, including AWS and Azure, as well as datacenter environments. You will be expected to utilize modern technologies (Kubernetes, Terraform, Prometheus, Grafana, etc.) and to be flexible in finding solutions across a variety of environments. This will involve both supporting customer-facing production environments, as well as internal tooling to be used by technical teams.
This is a mid-level position. You will own well-scoped work end to end with limited supervision, and contribute to larger initiatives under the direction of senior engineers. The role suits someone with solid hands-on fundamentals who is ready to grow into broader system ownership, and who is comfortable asking questions, learning in the open, and partnering with Software Engineering teams on day-to-day delivery.
RESPONSIBILITIES
* Infrastructure Implementation & Support: Build, deploy, and maintain infrastructure across production, QA, and development environments. Contribute to design discussions and implement changes that follow established platform standards and patterns.
* CI/CD Pipeline Development: Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines using tools such as Flux CD, GitLab, and Azure DevOps. Troubleshoot pipeline failures, improve build reliability and speed, and apply existing pipeline and release standards.
* Automation & Tooling: Write and maintain automation using Python, Bash, PowerShell, or similar languages. Identify repetitive manual work on the team and replace it with tooling.
* Observability & Incident Response: Implement and tune monitoring, logging, and alerting for the services you support. Participate in on-call and incident response, perform first-line triage, and contribute findings to root-cause analysis and runbooks.
* Cross-Team Collaboration: Work day to day with engineering, security, and operations teams to unblock delivery. Document what you build, review peers' merge requests, and help onboard newer engineers to team tooling and practices.
* Security & Compliance Practices: Apply established security and compliance controls in infrastructure and pipelines (DevSecOps) — secrets management, patching, vulnerability remediation — and escalate risks you identify.
* Cloud Operations & Cost Awareness: Operate and maintain resources across AWS, Azure, or GCP, including networking and identity configuration. Surface cost-saving opportunities and implement approved optimizations.
QUALIFICATIONS
* Experience: 2+ years of experience in DevOps, systems administration, cloud operations, or a related field.
* Experience managing and troubleshooting Linux environments.
* Proficiency with version control systems (e.g. git).
* Hands-on experience running and troubleshooting containerized workloads in Kubernetes (or Docker, Nomad, etc.).
* Working experience with cloud services like AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform.
* Practical experience using IaC tools like Terraform.
* Scripting ability in at least one language (Python, Bash, PowerShell, or similar).
* Certifications in relevant cloud technologies (e.g., AWS Certified DevOps Engineer, Azure DevOps Solutions Expert, CKAD, CKA) — held or in progress — are a plus.
NOTE: This job description is not intended to be all-inclusive. Employees may perform other related duties to meet the ongoing needs of the organization. All positions are required to complete a pre-employment drug screen and background check.
