About the role
What will you do at Laravel?
Senior Infrastructure Engineer, PostgreSQL > Laravel · Copenhagen, Denmark (Remote) · Full-time · Posted 2026-08-11 Workplace: remote Department: Engineering Description Laravel is looking for our first dedicated Senior Infrastructure Engineer, PostgreSQL to join our all-remote Laravel Cloud infrastructure team. For this role we're only considering applications in the EU and Eastern US timezones. We're on a mission to improve the experience of developers everywhere in the world.
To do so, we don't only need to build beautiful software products, we also need to have a solid infrastructure foundation. We always look at products end-to-end when we build something new, and love to keep our users front and center regardless of which part of the product we're building, so we are not only looking for a person who knows how to work with cloud providers and infrastructure, but someone who is able to have empathy for our users and wants to build the best possible products possible.
Databases are the part of that foundation our users trust us with most - it's where their data lives, and it's the thing they can least afford to have go wrong. We're tackling some ambitious and exciting infrastructure projects, and we are looking for a colleague who can help us succeed with the mission - not just solve infrastructure problems. We are looking for someone who is pragmatic and a team player, someone who knows the best practices, but also knows when a custom solution is required.
For this role, we are specifically looking for someone to join the Infrastructure team, working on our Laravel Cloud platform. Laravel Cloud is a fully managed infrastructure platform built for developers and teams who just want to ship their next big idea, and it's relentlessly optimized for Laravel and PHP.
Managed PostgreSQL is a core part of that platform, and we want someone to own it end to end: the operator that runs it, the automation around it, the reliability story, and the best practices we hold ourselves to. This is a build-it-from-the-ground-up role. You will be the person who takes our PostgreSQL offering from "it works" to "it's excellent", and you'll have real latitude to decide what that means.
Kubernetes, AWS, and Go are the tools you'll use to get there. If these things appeal to you, then please come join us on this exciting journey! Infrastructure Engineering at Laravel Work together with a world class team, touching the developer experience of hundreds of thousands of developers around the world.
Work on our most ambitious project yet, the recently announced Laravel Cloud platform. Spend time researching the best solutions. We want to make sure we do the right things right.
Value the collaborative process, we often pair program or have quick huddles to tackle tricky problems and like to come up with solutions together. Enjoy programming(!). Even though we're often working with cloud providers such as AWS, we also sometimes need to build custom tooling and integrations and we enjoy doing that ourselves.
Documentation is king, especially in an all-remote company. We pride ourselves in documenting for ourselves and for our users. Flexible hours and minimum bureaucracy, allowing you the freedom to get your best work done whichever way you prefer.
What you'll be doing Deploy, manage, and optimize PostgreSQL clusters on Kubernetes, owning high availability, performance, backups, and disaster recovery. Develop, maintain, and enhance Kubernetes operators and controllers in Go to automate database and platform operations. Design, build, and operate highly available cloud infrastructure on AWS across multiple accounts and regions.
Build and maintain Infrastructure as Code with Terraform, and automate the operational workflows that are still manual today. Improve reliability, scalability, and security through monitoring, observability, and proactive capacity planning. Troubleshoot and resolve complex production issues across PostgreSQL, Kubernetes, and cloud infrastructure.
Collaborate with engineering teams to improve developer experience, CI/CD pipelines, and platform automation. Define and promote best practices for database operations, and mentor engineers as our PostgreSQL expertise grows around you. What success looks like First 30 days: You understand our PostgreSQL platform, the surrounding infrastructure, our workloads, and where the operational pain actually is.
First 60 days: You have taken ownership of PostgreSQL operations and started improving reliability, monitoring, and automation. First 90 days: You have delivered measurable improvements in performance, scalability, and operational maturity, and you are setting the long-term direction for the platform. After 12 months: You are the owner and the expert for PostgreSQL at Laravel.
Operational complexity is lower, database practices are better, and engineering teams build and scale on top of PostgreSQL with confidence.
Requirements
- 7+ years of experience in software, platform, or infrastructure engineering, preferably working closely with large scale production systems.
- Deep expertise with PostgreSQL in production: performance tuning, replication, backups and recovery, high availability, major version upgrades, and troubleshooting under pressure.
- Mastery of AWS (or GCP), designing, deploying, and operating production cloud infrastructure.
- Preferably, you have worked in large AWS environments, dealing with customer data in multi-account setups spread across multiple regions.
- Experience with Kubernetes (K8s) and container orchestration, including production cluster operations, stateful workloads, storage, networking, RBAC, cluster upgrades, and troubleshooting.
- Strong proficiency in Go, with experience building and maintaining K8s operators and controllers using tools such as Kubebuilder, controller-runtime, and the Operator SDK.
- Strong Linux systems administration and networking fundamentals - network protocols, load balancing, caching, and DNS management.
- Experienced and comfortable with using IaC in a team (Terraform preferred), enforcing sanity checks and policies to help us scale.
- Experience with CI/CD and GitOps workflows, using tools such as Argo CD or Flux.
- Experienced and opinionated about logging, monitoring, and alerting tooling and processes (Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry).
- Preferably, you have run PostgreSQL on Kubernetes with an operator such as CloudNativePG or Crunchy Postgres for Kubernetes.
