About the role
What will you do at Kobalt Labs?
About Kobalt Labs
Kobalt is the AI-native compliance operating system for financial institutions (FIs). Compliance is critical for FIs to get right, but most of their work still happens manually, in legacy technology or Excel. Banks, credit unions, and fintechs across the country use Kobalt to run third party due diligence, screen marketing collateral, and stay current with the ever-changing regulatory landscape.
Since our Series A, we've grown revenue more than 5x and work with some of the most notable names in financial services, including Chime, Upstart, and Affirm.
The Role
We’re looking for a Product Designer to define the next generation of Kobalt’s product and brand. Kobalt has grown quickly into a broad platform used across risk and compliance teams at financial institutions. As the product expands, we need a stronger design system behind it: one that can make complex workflows intuitive, establish consistent patterns across the platform, and give our team a foundation to build on as we grow.
You’ll work closely with our CTO and engineering team to design new products and rethink existing ones, own the design and implementation of our website, and build the component and interaction patterns that shape how Kobalt looks and feels. This is a hands-on role for someone who cares as much about how a system works as how it looks.
What You’ll Do
- Design complex product workflows from first principles, working closely with engineering from early concepts through shipped product.
- Establish the design system for Kobalt’s platform, including reusable components and patterns for common product surfaces.
- Own Kobalt’s website end-to-end, from visual direction and information architecture through implementation and iteration.
- Evolve Kobalt’s visual identity across the product and website as we enter our next stage of growth.
- Spend time with customers and our team to understand how people actually work, then turn messy workflows and requirements into simple, thoughtful interfaces.
Qualifications
- 4+ years of experience designing and shipping software products, ideally complex B2B or enterprise applications.
- Exceptional systems thinking.
- You can reason about information architecture, interaction patterns, states, and reusable primitives—not just individual screens.
- A strong portfolio of product work that demonstrates both visual craft and thoughtful interaction design.
- Experience building or meaningfully contributing to a design system across a growing product.
- Comfortable working directly in code and using modern AI-assisted development tools to build and iterate on web experiences.
