What will you do at Hudson River Trading?
Hudson River Trading (HRT) is seeking a Senior WAN Engineer with experience designing, deploying, and scaling high-capacity WAN to support our evolving HPC research and algorithmic trading application requirements.
The WAN Engineering Team designs and engineers the Global Wide Area Network (WAN) Infrastructure that supports our massive HPC data centers as well as our trading infrastructure globally. Our mandate is to architect, optimize, and scale the high-performance LAN and WAN infrastructure that interconnects our globally distributed, large-scale on-prem data centers and trading colos, enabling them to grow rapidly and operate at peak performance in support of HRT’s demanding computational workloads.
Responsibilities
- Strategic network design, product selection, routing, configuration and troubleshooting for our next-generation WAN
- Work closely with our Networks and HPC Systems teams, among others, to scale our WAN to meet HRT’s evolving research and trading application requirements
- Overall capacity planning for the Data Center WAN
- Implement fully programmatically-driven network architectures using Python and configuration management tools (e.g., Ansible, Terraform, Saltstack)
- Collaborate with others in the network team to solve cross-disciplinary problems
- Analyze traffic patterns and optimize bandwidth usage
- Provide detailed documentation
- Mentor others as a senior resource
Qualifications
- 10+ years of relevant experience with carrier-scale global WAN design
- Proven ability to prioritize workloads and manage implementation schedules with meticulous attention to detail
- Proactive problem-solver with the technical skills and hands-on mentality to tackle challenges in the field
- Strong cross-functional collaboration skills and a focus on continuous improvement, with the humility to own and learn from mistakes
- Strong expertise in:
- Advanced BGP (BGP-SR, MP-BGP, BGP-LU, Extended Communities, UCMP), eBGP Route Server
- Segment Routing (SR-MPLS, SR-TE, BGP Prefix SID, Flex-Algo, TI-LFA, Fast Re-route)
- MPLS (LDP, RSVP-TE)
- OSPF/IS-IS
- QOS in WAN Environments
- Network and QOS Telemetry
- Multi-WAN vendor expertise (Arista, Cisco, Juniper, Other)
- Packet decoding and analysis tools such as tcpdump and Wireshark
- Experience with public cloud networks such as AWS, GCP, or Azure
- Unix/Linux command line utilities and networking stack
- Familiarity with Prometheus, Grafana, ELK is desirable
- Optical OLS/DWDM experience is desirable
- The estimated base salary range for this position is 150,000 to 250,000 USD per year (or local equivalent). The base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. This role will also be eligible for discretionary performance-based bonuses and a competitive benefits package.
