Company Cox Automotive - USA Job Family Group Vehicle Operations Job Profile Body Shop Painter (Flag) Management Level Individual Contributor Flexible Work Option No remote option; must work at a specified Cox location Travel % No Work Shift Day Job Description This position prepares properly repaired and primed automotive body panels for refinishing coat application, ensuring that all sanding scratches and visible imperfections are removed or repaired before applying refinishing topcoats.
Adherence to processes defined in Manheim’s Body Shop Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) is required. ***This position offers production‑based pay, meaning compensation is determined by the tasks performed. Pay ranges from $1.25 - $25.00 per flag hour based on location.

Responsibilities
- Inspect all repairs and primed panels for proper, complete body repairs and primer application, as defined in the SOP.
- Tools Bonus only for New Hires Review any incomplete, missed damage, or improper repairs with management before proceeding.
- Mask/protect any adjacent panels (non-refinish) from scratches or damage before final sanding.
- Prepare properly repaired and primed panels (including “blend” panels) for final finish application using abrasives, power tools, and hand tools, as directed in SOP.
- Avoid over-sanding (cutting through the finish) or under-sanding (leaving sand scratches that will be visible in the final finish) and refinish panels.
- Clean and remove all dust and other particles from repair/refinish panels completely before moving completed vehicles to the next step.
- Visibly demonstrate safety commitment by following all safety and health procedures and modeling the behaviors related to such.
- Actively participate in support of all safety activities aligned with Safety Excellence.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the manager or supervisor, i.e., assist supervisor in training and orienting new employees, perform housekeeping duties, etc.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent preferred. 1 year of body shop and/or prepping experience preferred.
- Regularly required to stand, walk, reach, talk, and hear.
- Frequently required to stoop, kneel, crouch, bend, squat, and climb.
- Ability to lift 1-15 pounds (i.e., light hand tools, etc).
- Manual dexterity, repetitive motion tasks.
- Vision abilities required include close, distance, and color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
- MSCOX Drug Testing To be employed in this role, you’ll need to clear a pre-employment drug test.
- Cox Automotive does not currently administer a pre-employment drug test for marijuana for this position.
- However, we are a drug-free workplace, so the possession, use or being under the influence of drugs illegal under federal or state law during work hours, on company property and/or in company vehicles is prohibited.
Benefits
Employees are eligible to receive a minimum of sixteen hours of paid time off every month and seven paid holidays throughout the calendar year. Employees are also eligible for additional paid time off in the form of bereavement leave, time off to vote, jury duty leave, volunteer time off, military leave, and parental leave.
