Position Summary...

What you'll do...

Job Summary: Join Walmart’s Cassandra Platform team to design, operate, and continuously improve one of the largest distributed database environments in the world. This role combines production ownership with hands-on engineering focused on automation, reliability, and AI-driven efficiency. What you'll do:

Reports to: Senior Engineering Manager, Cassandra Platform

Design and build automation to manage provisioning, scaling, upgrades, decommissions, and health monitoring of Cassandra clusters

Reduce repetitive operational work by developing internal tools and self-service capabilities

Participate in on-call rotation and lead incident response and root cause analysis for production systems

Improve system reliability, performance, and cost efficiency across a large-scale distributed database footprint

Evaluate and apply AI-assisted tooling to improve diagnostics, alert quality, and engineering productivity

What you'll bring:

Experience building backend or platform software using Java, Python, Ruby, and shell scripting

Experience operating and troubleshooting distributed systems in production environments

Ability to identify manual processes and replace them with scalable automation

Experience participating in on-call and incident response

Experience collaborating across engineering, cloud, and reliability teams

Bentonville, Arkansas US-30095: The annual salary range for this position is $110,000.00 - $220,000.00

Sunnyvale, California US-11349: The annual salary range for this position is $143,000.00 - $286,000.00 Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance bonuses. Additional compensation for certain positions may also include :

Minimum Qualifications...

Option 1: Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or related area and 4 years’ experience in software engineering or related area.
