About the role

What will you do at BDR Solutions LLC?

BDR Solutions, LLC, (BDR) supports the U.S. Federal Government in successfully achieving its mission and goals. Our service and solution delivery starts with understanding each client’s end-state, and then seamlessly integrating within each Agency’s organization to improve and enhance business and technical operations and deployments.

Position Summary

BDR Solutions is seeking Senior Gateway / Platform Engineers to lead new API gateway platform implementation and phased API migration program. EAG currently runs IBM webMethods processing ~1 billion API transactions/month across ~255 active APIs. TA4 covers installation and configuration of the new gateway (when Government-authorized), phased migration of all 255 APIs in approved waves with dual-run operations, and legacy IBM webMethods retirement after Government approval.

Named product experience is required.

Key Responsibilities

  • Install, configure, and integrate the new API gateway platform in IRS-approved environments upon Government authorization; configure services, routes, consumers, plugins, policies, certificates, and environment promotion patterns
  • Develop and execute a phased API Migration Wave Plan: inventory and classify ~255 APIs, sequence migration waves, configure equivalent routing, policies, authentication, transformation, logging, and telemetry
  • Execute dual-run operations with IBM webMethods and new gateway running concurrently; maintain rollback readiness, defect resolution, routing validation, consumer/provider coordination throughout
  • Validate functional, connectivity, regression, security, performance, and observability requirements for each migrated API wave; produce test evidence and rollback documentation
  • Integrate new platform with IRS identity, security, monitoring, CI/CD, change management, and incident management processes — IRS owns and administers all enterprise infrastructure services
  • Support IBM webMethods retirement and decommissioning planning after Government approval of migration completion
  • Produce Installation and Configuration Package, API Migration Wave Packages, and Dual-Run Operations Reports per the Deliverables schedule
  • Required Qualifications
  • 5+ years with enterprise API gateway platforms — experience may include Kong, Apigee, MuleSoft Anypoint API Manager, Microsoft Azure API Management, AWS API Gateway, IBM API Connect, Red Hat 3scale, Axway Amplify, WSO2 API Manager, Tyk, or comparable (named product experience required)
  • API migration experience: API inventory and classification, wave planning, configuration equivalence, dual-run operations, rollback readiness, and consumer/provider coordination
  • API authentication, authorization, OAuth2, Zero Trust principles, rate limiting, transformation, logging, and telemetry
  • IBM webMethods API Gateway or comparable experience — highly preferred as migration source stack
  • Direct IRS D&PE, TCS, PBBA, PTS, or comparable IRS middleware program experience
  • Active IRS Minimum Background Investigation (MBI) required
  • The salary compensation range for this position is $165,000 – $200,000.

Compensation

decisions depend on a wide range of factors, including but not limited to skill sets, experience and training, security clearances, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs.

This position is contingent upon contract award. Employment is not guaranteed and will proceed only if the associated contract is awarded and funded.

Individuals may also be subject to a background investigation including, but not limited to criminal history, employment and education verification, drug testing, and creditworthiness.
