Role Overview:
BDR Solutions is seeking an experienced Senior Data Engineer to support a mission-critical Department of Defense customer. The Senior Data Engineer will be responsible for designing, developing, implementing, and maintaining enterprise-scale data architectures, pipelines, and data management solutions that support operational, analytical, and decision-making capabilities across secure environments.
The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in modern data engineering technologies, cloud platforms, large-scale data processing, and data governance. This role requires collaboration with system architects, data scientists, software engineers, analysts, and government stakeholders to design secure, scalable, and resilient data solutions that meet mission requirements.
The Senior Data Engineer will also provide technical leadership, perform code reviews, guide engineering best practices, develop software prototypes, and support the integration of data solutions across complex enterprise environments.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain enterprise-scale data architectures and data pipelines supporting mission-critical systems.
- Develop and implement ETL/ELT processes for structured and unstructured data sources.
- Design and optimize data models, databases, and data workflows to improve performance, scalability, reliability, and security.
- Develop software prototypes and proof-of-concept solutions to support evolving customer requirements.
- Perform code reviews and ensure adherence to engineering standards, security requirements, and industry best practices.
- Collaborate with system architects, software developers, data scientists, and analysts to integrate data solutions into enterprise applications.
- Design and implement solutions using SQL and NoSQL database technologies.
- Support large-scale data processing frameworks such as Hadoop, Spark, Kafka, or similar technologies.
- Develop and maintain cloud-based data architectures within AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud environments.
- Implement data security controls, including Encryption, Data masking, Access controls and Auditing and monitoring
- Ensure compliance with DoD cybersecurity requirements, security policies, and governance standards.
- Establish and maintain data quality management processes and controls.
- Support data governance and master data management initiatives.
- Develop automation solutions that improve data integration, monitoring, and operational efficiency.
- Participate in DevSecOps initiatives and CI/CD pipeline development.
- Utilize containerization and orchestration technologies to support scalable deployments.
- Identify technical risks and recommend mitigation strategies.
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers and team members.
- Present technical solutions and recommendations to government stakeholders and program leadership.
- Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Information Systems, Software Engineering, or a related technical field.
- 8-10 years of Data Engineering experience supporting DoD, Intelligence Community, or Federal Government programs.
- Experience designing, developing, and maintaining enterprise-scale data architectures and data pipelines.
- Strong experience with: SQL databases, NoSQL databases, Data warehousing solutions, ETL/ELT tools and frameworks
- Experience with big data technologies such as: Hadoop, Spark, Kafka
- Similar distributed data processing platforms
- Experience designing and supporting cloud-based data solutions using: AWS, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud Platform (GCP)
- Advanced programming experience in one or more of the following: Python, Java, Scala
- Experience implementing secure data management solutions in regulated environments.
- Strong knowledge of: Data Governance, Data Quality Management, Master Data Management (MDM), Data Lifecycle Management
- Experience implementing cybersecurity controls for data protection.
- Ability to translate complex business and technical requirements into scalable engineering solutions.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Candidates must possess an active TS/SCI clearance with a current CI Polygraph at the time of hire.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting classified DoD or Intelligence Community programs.
- Experience working within secure cloud environments.
- Familiarity with DoD data standards and enterprise data strategies.
- Experience supporting Artificial Intelligence (AI) or Machine Learning (ML) data environments.
- Experience designing Data Lake and Data Lakehouse architectures.
- Experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools.
- Certification(s) such as:
- AWS Certified Data Engineer
- Azure Data Engineer Associate
- Certified Data Management Professional (CDMP)
- Security+
- CISSP
- The compensation range for this position is $160,000-190,000.
Compensation
decisions depend on a wide range of factors, including but not limited to location, skill sets, experience and training, security clearances, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs.
In addition, U.S Citizenship is required. Applicants will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information and be able to obtain a government-granted security clearance.
