About the Role
We’re looking for a Backend Engineer to help architect and scale the systems powering Picnic’s real-time logistics and operations. This is a high-impact role for an engineer who enjoys solving ambiguous problems, working with complex systems, and owning technical decisions from architecture through production. You’ll build backend services that support Picnic’s web and mobile products while tackling challenges across logistics, routing, automation, scalability, and reliability.
You’ll work closely with frontend, mobile, product, and operations teams and play an important role in shaping how Picnic designs and scales its backend infrastructure as the business grows.
What You’ll Do
- Design, build, and maintain high-quality backend systems using languages such as Java and Go Lead major technical initiatives across vehicle routing optimization, logistics automation, scalability, and reliability Own backend architecture and drive solutions to complex, ambiguous, and high-impact problems Build and scale core APIs, services, and data stores that support Picnic’s products and operations Establish best practices around testing, monitoring, observability, reliability, and system performance Partner with product and engineering leadership to translate technical priorities into quarterly roadmaps Collaborate closely with frontend, mobile, product, and operations teams to deliver end-to-end solutions Mentor other engineers through technical guidance, design reviews, code reviews, and hands-on collaboration
