About the role
What will you do at Apple?
Do you want to help build some of the largest and most consequential enterprise
and customer technology systems in the world? Join Apple’s Information Systems
and Technology (IS&T) organization. IS&T is the engine behind everything Apple
does for customers and for the people who build for them. It’s Apple’s central
nervous system. Supporting 2.5 billion active Apple devices, processing billions
of secure transactions, and keeping the technology that defines modern life
running flawlessly, IS&T makes the impossible feel effortless. G&A Solutions
Engineering (GSE) is IS&T's dedicated technology partner for Apple's general and
administrative functions — including people, finance, facilities, legal, and
security. The team builds and delivers integrated technology solutions that keep
these functions running efficiently and securely at global scale. GSE also works
closely with business teams to develop custom tools that improve productivity
and bring greater automation and consistency to G&A operations across Apple.
DESCRIPTION
Most financial systems record what happened. We are building one that reasons —
where AI agents interpret business intent, validate and enrich transactions,
route approvals, match documents, and resolve exceptions, with humans in the
loop by policy rather than by default. As a Senior Software Engineer, you will
build the services that make that possible: the transaction pipeline, the
sub-ledger, the orchestration layer, the tool APIs agents call, and the
interfaces finance operators use to supervise and correct agent work. You will
work across the stack with a backend center of gravity — the majority of your
time in distributed services and data, and real ownership of the APIs and
operator-facing surfaces that sit on top of them. You will work closely with the
platform architect and with Finance, Controllership, and Accounts Payable
partners. Correctness matters here in a way it doesn't in most systems: the code
you write moves money, and it gets audited.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
B.S. in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field, or
equivalent professional work experience. 8 years experience developing software
in a professional capacity. 6 years experience with Java, including mastery in
concurrency, memory management, and performance optimization techniques. 8 years
working with OOP principles, data structures, algorithms, and software design
patterns (e.g. GoF), with a proven focus on implementing testable, maintainable,
and extensible backend code. 6 years experience building production applications
with the Spring ecosystem (e.g. Spring Boot, Spring MVC, Spring Security, Spring
Data, Spring Cloud, etc.), including mastery in dependency injection,
auto-configuration, reactive programming with WebFlux, and designing
microservices using Spring-based patterns. 6 years experience designing,
implementing, and shipping high-scale, high-performance, highly available,
fault-tolerant, and secure cloud-based distributed systems.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
6 years experience in API design and implementation, including mastery in
RESTful API principles, gRPC, GraphQL, contract-first design (e.g.
OpenAPI/Swagger, Protobuf, etc.), API versioning strategies, gateway patterns,
rate limiting, and designing APIs for backward compatibility and long-term
evolution. 6 years experience using relational (e.g. Oracle, Postgres, MySQL,
etc.) and NoSQL (e.g. Cassandra, MongoDB, etc.) databases, including mastery in
schema design, query optimization, performance tuning (e.g. execution plan
analysis, indexing strategy, and query rewriting), and understanding of database
transaction foundations across systems. 6 years experience with Natural Language
Processing and Generative AI systems, including Large Language Models (LLMs),
Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG) architectures, embedding pipelines, vector
databases (e.g. Pinecone, Weaviate, pgvector, etc.), fine-tuning, and prompt
engineering for production applications. Track record of leading software
projects that span multiple, distributed teams as a tech lead (TL), while
mentoring senior-level software engineers. Hands-on experience leveraging GenAI
coding tools (e.g., Claude, Copilot, Codex) to accelerate the software
development lifecycle, enhance code quality, and streamline debugging and
testing processes. Experience with message-driven and event-driven
architectures, including mastery in messaging systems (e.g. Kafka, RabbitMQ,
ActiveMQ, etc.), event sourcing, CQRS patterns, and designing reliable
asynchronous communication between distributed services. Experience with caching
strategies and in-memory data technologies (e.g. Redis, Memcached, Hazelcast,
Ehcache, etc.), including mastery in cache invalidation patterns, distributed
caching architectures, and session management for high-throughput applications.
Experience with search and indexing technologies (e.g. Elasticsearch,
OpenSearch, Solr, etc.), including designing search architectures, index
optimization, query tuning, and implementing full-text search for large-scale
datasets. Experience with distributed data orchestration & computing systems
(e.g. Airflow, Spark, Flink, etc.), including designing and managing complex
data workflows, batch and real-time stream processing pipelines, and ensuring
data pipeline reliability and fault tolerance at scale. Experience with contract
testing and API test automation for microservices architectures, including
mastery in consumer-driven contract testing (e.g. Pact, Spring Cloud Contract,
etc.), API validation tools (e.g. REST Assured, Postman, etc.), and strategies
for testing asynchronous and event-driven systems.
