In my previous position as a Software Engineer at a tech start-up, I had the opportunity to transition a significant project from JavaScript to TypeScript. The project was a web application that had been in development for about two years. Initially, it was entirely coded in JavaScript, but as it grew, managing the codebase became increasingly challenging. I proposed to the team that we switch to TypeScript, and they approved my suggestion. We opted for a gradual migration approach. Throughout this process, I learned a great deal, particularly about configuring TypeScript Compiler Options, managing type definitions, and creating ambient declarations for code without types. After three months of dedicated effort, we successfully completed the migration, which proved to be very beneficial. We experienced immediate improvements in code readability, predictability, and robustness. The project is now maintained in TypeScript, making further development and debugging significantly easier. This experience not only deepened my understanding of TypeScript but also enhanced the maintainability and scalability of our project.
