As the PM for TikTok, my first step would be to assess the duration of the trend and the extent of the decline to discern whether it represents a short-term fluctuation or a long-term trend, and to gauge whether the drop is minor or substantial. Following that, I would analyze key performance indicators for any irregularities or outliers, including User Retention, User Acquisition and Engagement Rates, as well as Average Time on App. Subsequently, I would categorize the Daily Active Users (DAU) based on demographic, geographic, or device-type characteristics to see if the decline is concentrated within a specific group. Some potential reasons for a decline in DAU that I might consider include: The emergence of new competing social media platforms. TikTok’s latest features or updates may not be appealing to our users. Seasonal changes or global events taking place. I would validate these hypotheses through a combination of methods, such as A/B testing, data analysis, qualitative user interviews, and surveys. If the hypotheses are substantiated, I would create targeted interventions. For instance, if the new features are not well received, I would arrange user feedback sessions to pinpoint what is lacking or what improvements can be made, and implement the necessary changes.
