Suggested Answer

In my previous position as a Sales Manager, I observed that one of our team members, Jane, excelled in customer service but faced challenges in meeting her sales targets. Recognizing her potential, I took the initiative to assist her in enhancing her sales abilities. I dedicated extra time to coach her individually, offering advice and even conducting role-playing exercises for sales calls to boost her confidence. To make sure she felt valued and included in the team, I established a weekly meeting where team members could discuss their successes and difficulties. As a result, Jane became more proactive, her sales performance improved significantly, and she developed a stronger connection with the company and her colleagues. This not only led to enhanced performance but also increased employee retention, as the team felt more supported and appreciated.

Alternative Answer

During my time as the project manager for a software development initiative, our team consisted of recent graduates who were just starting their careers. While they possessed the necessary skills, they were lacking in experience and confidence. To address this, I initiated a mentoring program that paired more seasoned team members with those who were less experienced. I also organized regular workshops focused on skill development and brought in industry speakers to share their insights. This upskilling initiative led to a boost in both confidence and capabilities among the team members. To help retain them, I made sure they had a well-defined career development plan and progression opportunities within the organization. As a result, several team members have taken on leadership roles in their projects, and we have successfully retained all team members despite enticing offers from competing companies. I believe this reflects the effectiveness of our development and retention strategies.
