When an email is sent from Outlook to Gmail, a series of steps take place in the background. Initially, the user writes an email in their Outlook client and clicks the send button. The email is then directed to Outlook's Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP), which utilizes a protocol like SMTP (Simple Mail Transfer Protocol) to handle the email. After the outgoing server of Outlook receives the email, it examines the recipient's email address. Based on the recipient's domain, which in this instance is "@gmail.com," the SMTP server forwards the email to the recipient's Incoming Mail Server—specifically, the Gmail server. If the recipient's server (Gmail) is online and ready to receive messages, the email will be delivered to the recipient's mailbox, where it will be available for them to read the next time they check their inbox. When the recipient accesses their Gmail Client, the email client will retrieve the email from the server, allowing it to be read.
