Instagram, a social media platform, primarily consists of three key elements: Users, Posts, and their Interactions. Users: Each user has a profile containing information such as Username, Email, Password, and Profile Picture. A Relational Database Management System (RDBMS) can be utilized to manage user information. Posts: Each post includes data such as Image/Video, caption, location, timestamp, and user reference. A NoSQL database (like MongoDB) is suitable for this purpose as it accommodates unstructured data, which is advantageous for handling large media files. User Activities: Activities such as Following, Liking, Sharing, Commenting, Saving, and Messaging between users must be monitored. A Graph Database is ideal for this as it allows for real-time exploration of connections between data. News Feed Generation: Instagram requires an intelligent algorithm for activity recommendations based on user interactions. Technologies like Redis can be employed to store feed data in memory, ensuring rapid access and updates to the information. Search: Elasticsearch can be implemented to facilitate full-text searches and simplify the process of locating relevant information. Security: The HTTPS protocol is utilized for all communications between users and servers, along with password encryption for secure data storage. The design of this system must be scalable in both vertical and horizontal dimensions, taking into account the volume of data it needs to manage.
