In my previous role, I carried out an A/B test on our website aimed at enhancing user engagement. Despite thorough implementation and analysis, the test did not yield positive results, and there was no significant increase in user engagement. After reflecting on what may have gone awry, I recognized that there could have been a flaw in the foundational assumptions of the experiment. Our basic belief about what influences user engagement was not strongly supported by user behavior data. Additionally, we tested too many variables simultaneously, making it difficult to determine which specific changes influenced the results. This experience taught me the significance of conducting thorough user research before forming assumptions and the necessity of running simpler, more focused tests to gain a clearer understanding of the impact of each variable. For my subsequent experiments, I made sure to implement these practices, which resulted in notable improvements in user engagement.
