In a previous position, I was part of a machine learning research team. One member was struggling to meet deadlines and was not fulfilling his responsibilities. I chose to address the issue by having a private conversation with him. I highlighted how his delays were affecting the rest of the team and our project timeline. To my surprise, he was unaware of his performance issues and appreciated my honesty. Together, we developed a plan to break his tasks into smaller, more manageable segments and established regular check-ins to monitor his progress. Within a few weeks, he showed significant improvement and started submitting his work on time, which had a positive influence on the project's advancement. This experience reinforced for me the significance of open communication and feedback within a team environment.
