In my former role as a Product Manager at XYZ Inc., a critical client required a specific customization in the software that exceeded our product's current capabilities. We faced two choices: either risk losing the client or undertake a significant risk by modifying part of the product. I organized a meeting with the client to gain insight into their specific requirements and the challenges they were experiencing due to the absence of this customization. Following our discussion, I collaborated with the technical team to assess the risks and efforts involved in adding the new feature. Although it was outside the scope of our existing product, it appeared to be an enhancement that could benefit other clients in the future. I returned to the client with a proposed timeline for the customization, along with a proof-of-concept. In the meantime, I offered them a workaround using our current features and software to simplify their existing process. The client appreciated the proposed solution and our dedication to addressing their needs. Ultimately, we retained the client and improved our product, giving us a competitive edge.
